How to Use Tek Screws

In nearly every industry vertical, you will find some type of screw. A screw is a mechanical fastener with a threaded shaft that is designed to screw into a particular part, object, or material. There are so many screw types available on the market, but one of the most popular screw types are Tek screws, a broad category of self-drilling screws.

Tek screws find use in the electrical industry and other sectors where the need to attach metal to metal or wood to wood is common. Moreover, Tek screws can be especially useful when you are fastening in volume, and the self-drilling nature of Tek screws make carrying out your operations faster. In terms of composition, Tek screws feature a carving piece on their tip that makes self-drilling possible.

Due to the fact that they are self-drilling, a pilot hole does not need to be created before inserting a Tek screw. To install them, you can simply use an electric screwdriver or drill. If you decide to create a pilot hole, this will ensure that the Tek screw goes in straight, but it is not necessary. However, you must ensure that the pilot hole is slightly smaller than the Tek screw, if not, the screw’s grooves may not catch so easily.

In most cases, users opt out of drilling pilot holes. Without a pilot hole, a Tek screw must be drilled in slowly to ensure it goes in straight. Furthermore, when you are tightening the screw, you must make sure it is not too tight as this can strip the head, making it difficult to remove at a later time. There are a wide range of Tek screw types, all of which cater to a myriad of applications. Some of the most common types are low-profile, hex head, and lan head tek screws.

To begin, low-profile Tek screws are ideal for applications that require a flush finish as they limit how far the screw’s head protrudes out of a hole. Next, hex head Tek screws provide increased stability during installation, making them great options for roofing and other tasks that necessitate self-drilling through aluminum or other metals. Lastly, pan head Tek screws are great for light-duty applications, and they also do not require a pilot hole.
